Typical sliding contact bearings are sleeve and neck bearings, clearance bearings, fitted bearings, thrust bearings and plain bearings. Rolling contact bearings include ballbearing, roller bearing, and thrust roller bearing. Rolling contact bearings have the advantage over sliding contact bearings in that they are low-friction and easy to lubricate, can withstand radial and thrust loads, and withstand overload, easy replacement, lubrication or on the manufacturer's catalog. The choice is to maintain considerable precision to withstand the preload, to make the shaft tighter, to have less starting torque, and to have less axial space when the shaft diameter is equivalent. However, rolling contact bearings are expensive and complex, require more radial space, have a short life span, and are less susceptible to shock when compared to sliding contact bearings, even without warning signs before failure. The damage of the system, therefore, the choice of rolling contact bearings or sliding contact bearings depends on the purpose of their use.
